Introduction to the Outgoing Exchange Program

The Outgoing Exchange Program is designed for students of National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) to study abroad at partner universities. The program aims to provide students with international experience, cultural exchange, and academic enrichment.

Definition of Exchange Student

Exchange students refer to students who have passed the international exchange student selection process of NSYSU, have been nominated by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) to the exchange universities, and have been granted admission by the exchange universities. These students study one or two semesters at the exchange university while paying tuition and fees at NSYSU.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:

• Be NSYSU's first to fourth-year undergraduate or first to second-year master students.
• Have passed the minimum language certification threshold and meet the language proficiency requirements of the exchange university.
• Have good academic grades and no record of misconduct.

Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must pass the minimum language certification threshold:

• TOEFL iBT 60 / IELTS 5.0 / TOEIC 600 at least
• JLPT 5 at least The language proficiency certificate must remain valid during the selection period.

Application

The application process consists of:

1. Online Application: The application period is from August 14, 2024, 9:00 AM to August 27, 2024, 5:00 PM.
2. Required Documents:

• Application form
• Personal recent photo
• Copy of ID / passport / ARC
• Copy of Student ID Card
• Official Academic Transcript
• Language proficiency certificate
• Supporting documents (e.g., awards, volunteer services, student club participation)
• Study plan
• Exchange destination preference form

3. Application Deadline: August 27, 2024, 5:00 PM
4. Online Application Review and Correction Period: August 14, 2024, 9:00 AM - August 29, 2024, 5:00 PM

Duration of Exchange

The exchange period may be one semester or one academic year (two semesters), depending on the regulations of each partner university. The departure time may start from April 2025 or September 2025.

Qualification for Each Exchange University

Applicants must check the reference information of each exchange university before submitting application documents. The intake number for the exchange programs will vary each semester/academic year.

Selection Process and Result Announcement

The selection process consists of:

1. Preliminary Review: The OIA appoints two faculty members to serve on the Preliminary Review Committee.
2. Evaluation Factors: Academic performance (30%), language proficiency (40%), study plan (20%), and supporting documents (10%).
3. Selection Result Announcement: The primary selection result will be announced around the end of September.
4. Admission Consent Letter or Withdrawal Statement: Admitted students must submit either the "Admission Consent Letter" or the "Withdrawal Statement" before the deadline.

Obligations of Students Attending Overseas Exchange Programs

Students must:

1. Purchase necessary overseas insurance.
2. Take and pass at least two courses each semester.
3. Update their travel status with the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
4. Maintain close contact with their family members and the OIA throughout the exchange period.
5. Submit a report of their overseas experience after returning to Taiwan.

Other Notes

1. Students officially become exchange students at the university once an admission notification is received.
2. All students accepted to participate in outgoing exchange programs are required to apply for visas, select courses, apply for transfer of credits, purchase flight tickets, take insurance for overseas stay, and acquire information about the host countries on their own.
3. Some partner universities do not guarantee dormitory accommodation, but will provide housing information for students to make their accommodation arrangements.
4. Students must be full-time, matriculated students in NSYSU during the exchange period.
5. Applicants who fail to submit language certificates are ineligible for the program.
